Year 7

The aim of the Literacy and Numeracy program at Year 7, is to raise the literacy and numeracy levels of students who have been identified as requiring extra assistance in these areas. The program focuses on project based activities. Students are taught in small groups in their own special classroom and receive maximum assistance from the teaching team. Many activities are based on real life experiences. Students have continual access to computers to find, create and present their work. They also use an interactive Smartboard and multi media projector.

As well as projects, students also improve their literacy and numeracy skills with specific lessons dedicated to the basics of reading, comprehension, spelling, writing, listening, speaking numbers, tables, fractions, area, algebra and other relevant English and Maths skills and topics. A regular homework program further assists in improving their skills.

Students also enjoy relevant activities such as making pancakes on Pancake Day, feasting on pizza at the end of their “trip” to Italy, visiting a local primary school and an excursion to the movies.

Year 8

Students who have been in the Program at Year 7 receive extra assistance where possible for 1 period per week in their English and Maths classes in Year 8.

Parents are encouraged to communicate with the teaching team at all times in order to support the College in its endeavour to raise the literacy and numeracy levels of students in the program.
