Go Girls Projects

Go Girls is a fully integrated VCAL program designed for year 11 students. It is designed to develop the students understanding of the world around them and explore the various pathway options available to them.

Over the course of the year students complete ten projects including:

1. Me, Myself and I - This activity is designed to encourage students to be self-reflective in order to be able to develop relationships with each other and their teachers. Students may wish to choose a theme song, create a class loge and a personal collage.

2. Safe at Work - This unit is designed to familiarise students with Occupational Health and Safety requirements in the workplace, introduce them to the Sex Discrimination Act and analyse specific incidents of workplace injury.

3. Melbourne on Offer - This unsupervised excursion enables student to demonstrate independence in undertaking a self-managed activity. Students familiarise themselves with public transport timetables prior to beginning VET/SWL placements.

4. Phenomenal Women - Students are encouraged to think about what makes a phenomenal woman and undertake research to present what makes their a phenomenal women.

5. ANZAC - This unit has been designed to be delivered in conjunction with ANZAC Day. Students will consider and make judgements about the impact of war on individuals, families and communities and the need for world peace.

6. Camp SHACK - This three day camp enables students to actively participate in a range of community service activities. The camp provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate team work and leadership skills. Students will develop an awareness of various social issues and support services.

7. What's Good For You? - This unit develops students awareness of nutrition, diet-related diseases and the importance of maintaining personal health.

8. Pay It Forward - This project enables students to coordinate a major fundraising project for a charity of their choice.

9. Holocaust - 'Whoever saves one life saves the world entire' - This unit introduces students to values and repercussions of greed, persecution, racism and discrimination with particular reference to the Jewish Holocaust.

10. Where Am I Going? - This activity is self-reflective on the journey the girls have travelled this year - their career pathways, resumes, choice of referees and personal aspirations.

Mentor Dinner

As part of the 'What's Good For You?' unit the Go Girls prepared a three-course dinner for their parents and mentors. The meal was designed to be nutrionally balanced and appropriate given budget, dietary and time constraints.

Throughout the evening each student presented some information to the audience about their achievements so far. It was a most enjoyable evening and a credit to the hard work of the girls. Well done.

The Royal Childrens Hospital

Go Girls dressed up as pirates, fairies and ballerinas entertained sick children at the Royal Children's Hospital as part of the Camp SHACK project. Students were required to plan an activity appropriate for children in the Starlight Express Room and collect all the materials required for the session. A great time was had by students and patients alike!
