Berwick Secondary College is part of the Leading Schools Fund ‘Go Live’- Preparing our Kids for the 21st Century project. This involvement started in 2005 and has seen the transformation of a number of classrooms around the school.
What is a Flexible Learning Space?
- Large room
- Colourful
- 2 classes can run simultaneously
- Has Information Communication Technology integrated
- Uses Teaching & Learning coaches
- Room that can support a range of activities
within one session

To date, seven large ‘Flexible Learning Spaces’ have been created across the school. These rooms have been created to better accomodate use of the five senses. Students using these spaces have access to state of the art technology, including:
- Interactive whiteboards
- Wireless laptops
- Surround sound multimedia
Teachers in the spaces are supported by a team of six ‘Teaching and Learning coaches’, who help teachers with the planning and ongoing delivery of innovative projects in the spaces.
When you walk into a Flexible Learning Space you will rarely see all the students working on the same activity. Our students learn in different ways and projects have been set up to cater for a range of interests. Students are provided with choices and encouraged to take more responsibility for their own learning.

- ‘What’s in a Song?’
- Edward Scissorhands
- Maths Space or Flight project
- Cry me a River Webquest
- A range of LOTE activities
- Photoshop and Pro-Desktop
Our work at Berwick Secondary College has attracted considerable interest from other schools across Victoria. We have hosted numerous delegations of teacher groups as well as showcasing our work at education conferences, including the Victorian Information Technology Teachers Association Annual Conference, IBM's Re-Inventing Education Conference and the regional e-learning conferences.
